Worth Over £2 Billion: Britain’s Pop-Up Retail Economy

Pop-up retail contributes to over £2.3 billion to the UK economy according to Britain’s Pop-Up Retail Economy 2015, the second annual report into the pop-up sector from Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr). Meaning that pop-ups now account for 0.76 per cent of total UK retail turnover, up from 0.6 per cent the year before, an increase of more than £200 million in sales.

Pop up shop design and traditional retail are becoming synonymous, as an increasing number of brands explore the marketplace. Often utilising the opportunity to test the water and expand in new territories.

Eight per cent of retailers report having launched a pop-up sometime in the past year, while ten per cent plan to open one in the next five years.

We reflect on the recent pop up shop design we envisaged for Rolls Royce at Harrods, which took place over the Christmas season last year.
